Libyan AdventureIt may sound surprising, but Libya is the country to visit in order to see the Sahara in its entire splendor. While many still picture Libya as unwelcoming to outsiders, the opposite is the case. Indeed, ever since Colonel Qaddafi surprised the world by announcing that Libya would give up its weapons programs, it has become one of the most politically stable countries in the region and thus an ideal place from which to see the wonders of the desert. And it has it all. Marvel at the forbidding volcanic rock walls of the Jebel Acacus. Climb dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see. Float in the salt-water lakes of a desert oasis. Or behold the ancient wonders of Leptis Magna, once the largest Roman city in Africa. Whatever your pleasure, Libya is home to some of the most stunning examples of the wonders of the desert on Earth.
