Tibetan Refugee Nuns

After the Chinese occupied Tibet in 1959, more than 1,000 Tibetan Buddhist nuns have made the treacherous journey across the Himalayas in search of political freedom and a better education. Dolma Ling is a nunnery in Dharamsala sponsored by The Tibetan Nuns Project that offers a curriculum of traditional Buddhist philosophy and debate. Images by Alexia Beckerling
