Born in Brighton, England, Stewart Weir has been a photographer since 1993.
It is the human condition and the environments that we call home that draws his attention. His work now focusses on fine art black and white film imagery with a move away from documentary work into the realms of human spiritual metaphor and mankind’s relationship to nature and the urban environment.
Published internationally including National Geographic Traveller, Vogue (Brazil), The Times, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, The Observer, The Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, The Independent, The Independent On Sunday, Wales On Sunday, The Guardian, El Pais, Stern, Paris Match, The Face, Hello, Esquire, GQ, F1 Racing, Four Four Two, Stern, Le Figaro, The British Journal of Photography, Practical Photography etc. Also been commissioned to produce images for 40 books and has travelled extensively on assignments throughout Europe, Asia and North America.
Published book (More Than Ninety Minutes 1997) received critical acclaim from both the sporting and photographic press.
I have worked with several NGOs;
Warchild (UK); I produced photographic stills of their project to create a field bakery to feed up to 20,000 refugees in camps in the North Eastern region of Afghanistan immediately after the fall of the Taliban in 2002. I also filmed a short documentary about the project.
Oxfam (UK); I produced a photo documentary about the problems facing Afghans with unexploded ordnance immediately after the fall of the Taliban in 2002.
Merlin (UK); I produced a range of images about the immediate aftermath of the Asian tsunami of 2003. I covered the area of Galle on the southern tip of Sri Lanka.
