I read an article today about the distinction between an “old master” and a “young genius.” The author of the theory was asked which he was. He said he hadn’t been a young genius, so the best he could hope for is to later be seen as an old master. Too true.
An “old master” doesn’t necessarily know what he’s after, but he knows when he gets it. I think that’s more my approach as a photographer. I like the challenge of trying to capture something specific without necessarily having to restrain my imagination.
Likewise, I don’t like my final product to restrain the viewer’s imagination. They can write whatever they wish onto my almost-blank canvas.Scott W 's current location:
