On 'Silk Road'

In our days, when the cheap transcontinental flights are very available, a journey, how we can imagine it reading XIX century novels, has transformed from adventure into some routine: visa, airport, inflight lunch – and you have already been somewhere on ocean coast among the palms. Hitch-hiking is much closer to the things filling by Marco Polo, Afanasiy Nikitin and first explorers of Africa: you go slowly, see more and more exotics around and the ordinary things disappears step by step. And one day you suddenly find that you are – in China. Moscow-Beijing, 2008
