Chirodeep started his career in journalism as a trainee reporter. It was his way of trying to get a foot in the door. His next job – his first as a photographer, was with the Sunday Observer group in Mumbai. Since then he has worked on the teams of one of India’s premier magazine groups (The Outlook Group), traveled the length and breath of India as a photographer and picture editor for a travel website (traveljini.com). He was working as the picture editor for the international arts and culture magazine (Timeout) for their India editions and presently works as the Consulting Editor-of-photography for the National Geographic Traveler magazine’s India edition.
He is the author of the critically feted book “A Village in Bengal: Photographs and an Essay” a by-product of his 13-year long documentation of his ancestral village in West Bengal. His works have also been published in other books documenting the architecture and heritage of his city, Bombay, and he has photographed many a travel and feature stories that have been widely published in various lifestyle publications in India and in a moderate way in magazines around the world.
His works have been exhibited extensively here in India and also in the USA, UK and China and is part of the permanent collections of the Peabody Essex Museum; Salem (USA), Museum of Photographic Arts; Houston (USA) and the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts (Japan) and many private collections in India.
He is based in Mumbai and divides his time between his job and his personal projects and teaching assignments. He is also available for freelance assignments in any part of the world.
