Robert vanWaarden divides his time between the Netherlands and Montreal where he is continuing to turn his lens on the problem of climate change.
His was recently commissioned by the British Council of Canada to photograph the Cape Farewell Youth Voyage. The images were published internationally in numerous outlets, including CNN and Canadian Geographic. The images are now slated to appear in an International Exhibition beginning with a launch at the British Council Headquarters in London in February 2009 and set to tour Canadian government offices throughout 2009.Robert vanWaarden travels the world, camera in hand. With 10 years of travel and professional experience behind the lens he has produced some striking images. Robertâ€™s portfolio shows a rich variety of images selected from his various travels. Greenland; Iceland; Portraits of Indonesia; 23 days of Tall Ships racing across the Atlantic; travels on the high Pamir plateau of Central Asia; skiing and climbing adventures in the high Rocky Mountains; the Australian outback; and the urbanscapes of North American, European and Asian cities.
He has spent the last two years focusing on the social movements enacting change and the geographical affects of a changing climate. His work has appeared in major national and international magazines and he counts several international corporations amongst his clients. VanWaarden believes in the power of photography to make a difference. He believes that he can help shift the world towards a more sustainable existence.
VanWaarden’s images have appeared in publications by Canadian Geographic, CNN, CBC, Radio Canada, British Council of Canada, Epoca Magazine, UP! Magazine, COWI, UPEI, McGill Law Journal, The AGE, Gouvernment de Quebec, and numerous international non-profit organizations.
