Andrea Künzig was born in Germany and received a degree in Political Studies in Berlin, before becoming a freelance photographer in 1994. Andrea lived and worked in Jerusalem and Nairobi between 1994 and 2004.

Her photo essays and documentaries tell stories in different African countries, in the Middle East
and in the borderlands between Europe and Asia, in particular of women and children.

She works for magazines and newspapers such as GEO, Time Magazine, National Geographic Traveller, der Spiegel and die ZEIT among others. She also works regularly for humanitarian organizations including UNICEF, WPF and Terre des Femmes and on her own projects.

Andrea published the books: „Menschenkinder“(2000),„Visions: Palestine“(2004). This work has been has been widely exhibited in different countries in Europe.
Her new book: “Istanbulum” (My istanbul) is just published in November 2010.

In the last ten years she worked about an African family project „The Mbily Family – Basic Needs“ for the magazine GEO:

She has received several grants and prizes for her documentary work, most recently “The European Journalist Award for Excellence in Journalism” in 2010 from the World Population Foundation.

Andrea Künzig gave Photo workshops in Berlin, Mongolia and for the Goethe – Institute in India.
