Dance Academy

The dance academy is a rite-of-passage for Viennese teenagers. Once or twice a week they attend one of the many academies in the city and learn to waltz, foxtrot, quick-step and pasa-doble. And, of course, to get to grips with the opposite sex. The Elmayer academy in the city centre is one of the most prestigious, and I was privileged to be allowed to take pictures there for a few hours.

I develop projects that I’m interested in, raise the money to do them, then try to sell the pictures. I work very simply: black and white 35mm, one lens. There is some work from Europe on my website. Places on my ‘radar’ are: Kosovo, Algeria & Morocco, Sri Lanka, Laos. I just love wandering around with a camera in my hand.
