About
Jyotika Jain is a photographer based in Mumbai, India. Her photographic odyssey began with a project in which she documented the ladies special trains/compartments of the local trains in Mumbai. She exhibited this photo reportage at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in February 2009. It has also been published in some of the international editions of Marie Claire magazine, Tu Style in Italy, Omroep Hindoe Media in Holland and the Sunday Guardian in India. She was the still photographer for an independent film, Dhobi Ghat (Mumbai Diaries). Her assignment included creating a portfolio for a character who plays a photographer in the film. She has attended the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop (July-August 2009) in Manali for which she won ‘The Travel Photographer and Foundry Scholarship’. Later she was selected to participate in the Angkor Photo Workshops in Siem Reap, which invites around 30 students every year from all over Asia. As part of this workshop, she chose to document the lives of the Buddhist nuns living in the wats (monasteries) in Siem Reap and exhibited this photo story at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in February 2010. This story has also been published in the Mid-day in India. Some of her selected works from the Ladies Special series are available on sale on the beathearts.com portal. In July 2011 she contributed photographs to the Jews of India article published by the Jewish Renaissance magazine in UK. She is currently documenting the dying Jewish community of India and is available for assignments. Besides working on her stories she often takes photographs while travelling and walking around which she shares on her blog – www.jyotikajain.com Jyotika Jain 's current location:[location unknown] Play slideshow → |
