A 2007 graduate of the Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism, John Wendle works as a staff reporter for The Moscow Times and as a freelance photographer with Atlas Press Photo Agency.

Previously he worked as a freelance photographer for AMNewYork, The Villager, The Chief-Leader and the Riverdale Press in New York City. He was a photojournalism intern with the TimesLedger group of newspapers in Queens.

Before attending the Journalism School, he worked as a reporter, photographer and editor in Baku, Azerbaijan at Caspian Business News, the leading English-language newspaper in the Caucasus, Central Asia and the Caspian region. There he reported on oil and corruption and photographed the country’s violent 2005 parliamentary elections.

He became interested in reporting and photojournalism during his Peace Corps service in Aktau, Kazakhstan.

He speaks fluent Russian and French and rudimentary Kazakh and Azeri.

He is available for all assignments, domestic and foreign.
