About
Began working seriously in photography in 1977 while searching for images for the book “Morning Calm: A Photographic Journey Through the Korean Countryside”. Since then, when not busy with university duties, have been involved in numerous projects: “Namaste: Photographs From The Nepalese Valleys of Pokhara and Kathmandu” (published in book form), “Faded Stone: Images From Japan” (published in various magazines and journals, still waiting for book publication), “Cities of China” (unpublished), “Voices From Moscow” (with John Einarsen, published as a series in Kyoto Journal and elsewhere), “Cambodian Dust” and smaller projects in a variety of locations including Paris, Bali, Laos and North Korea. Recently have turned my attention to the moving image (DVD) with stills incorporated in the final product. Am currently working on “Light From The Shadows: Searching for Peace in Hiroshima and Nagasaki”. In the distant past, had a large number of exhibitions in diverse locations such as Japan, Korea, Poland, Russia and the United States, but have not exhibited images for over 15 years. The great majority of work has been done as a non-profit venture. Fortunately, work at the university has afforded both the time and money to pursue the light.
