Sierra Leone child labour72% of the children in Sierra Leone work, It is the second poorest country in the world. Children are often forced to work like slaves, sometimes for their own relatives. Both boys and girl perform hard physical labor such as breaking granite, carrying charcoal, wood and water for miles. Girls are also kept as sex slaves. Children in Sierra Leone, "Pikin" in Creole, seem to belong to a different race altogether. They receive no respect and face daily violence. They are expected to provide for their families while paying for their own food and "rent." Even those who attend school and live with their families are treated this way. In Sierra Leone, every third child will die before reaching the age of five.
