Experienced freelance photographer based in Cairns Australia. Regularly work for News Ltd, Fairfax and other news publications in Australia, string for Associated Press (AP) around Australia and the south Pacific, and work for various newspapers on assignments in Australia, Asia, the Pacific and elsewhere. Covered George Speights coup in Fiji and the World Economic Forum riots in Melbourne in 2000, the evacuation of refugees from East Timor 1999, the victims of the Bali bomb blasts 2002, the tsunamis in northern Papua New Guinea 1998 and in Asia 2004 (Banda Aceh, Indonesia – Phuket, Khoa Lak etc Thailand – and Myanmar) and the destruction wrought by category 5 cyclones (hurricanes, typhoons) on northern Australia – “Larry” in 2006 and “Yasi” in 2011.
( * nb … for those who failed geography ……. Cairns is a city in northern tropical Australia, closer to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands than it is to Sydney and Melbourne – an ideal base to access south Asia and the southern Pacific, all reached by short flights. )
