About
I was born in San Salvador, El Salvador where I lived until I was 11. Then in 1980 I was forced to leave the country because of the civil war. My brother and I moved to Maryland where I attended school and began a new life. To make the long story short, I graduated from John F. Kennedy High School where I began taking photography which led to attending a community college. I didn’t even know college was the thing to do after high school. I had a great professor named Amy Heller who encouraged me to further my photography and suggested I transfer to the University of New Mexico. Eventually I graduated and returned to El Salvador where I conducted photo workshops for newspaper staffers. I returned to the states in 1998 and made my way back to Albuquerque, New Mexico where I managed to get a job as a staff photographer for the Albuquerque Journal. Besides working on daily assignments, I’m also working on a project back in El Salvador on fishermen mainly around the area of the Gulf of Fonseca. Roberto E.
