Tomoko Yamamoto is a native of Tokyo, Japan where she visits her family regularly, but she lives in Vienna, Austria after 43 years in the US. Her academic background includes Bachelor`s degree in Biology (Tokyo Metropolitan University, 1966, Tokyo, Japan) followed by a second B.S. in Physics (Bradley University,1968, Peoria, IL, USA) and a Ph.D. in Biophysics (University of Michigan, 1974, Ann Arbor, MI, USA). She started selling her photos in 1989 after several years of research and three years of teaching physics in American colleges. Her turning point was her 1977 photograph of the Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York, which graced the cover of Cornell Alumni Magazine in 1991.
Later her impressionist reflection photos and other nature photos were exhibited in Maryland and the neighboring states of Virginia and Delaware. She began her voice studies in 1988 and studied composition briefly in 1994. Since 2005, she has given concerts in which music and photography are both presented. The themes of these multimedia concerts have been the arias of Johann Sebastian Bach in German, Franz Schubert’s songs in German and her own compositions in Japanese.
In Vienna, Austria, she has established herself as solo proprietership, Tomoko Yamamoto e.U. (e.U. is the abbreviation of Einzelunternehmen, sole proprietership).
