I was born in 1954 outside of Detroit and graduated from Michigan State University in 1976 with a degree in computer science. Through my high school years, I dreamed of being a newspaper sports photographer. This aspiration faded as my college education progressed.

After a fairly long and relatively successful run as a software entrepreneur, three years ago I embarked on a path to reinvent myself as a fine art/documentary photographer.

My first love is street photography, in black and white, using a small, unobtrusive rangefinder camera. People, usually random and anonymous, are essential elements of these photographs. His preferred method is to see, photograph, but not be seen.

When seeking out photographs, most of the time I simply start walking. This method works for me both in cities in Europe and at home. My little camera, usually affixed with a wide angle lens, becomes part of my right hand and just see where my feet take me. I admit that coffee shops, known or unknown, are welcome way points along the way.

Recent projects include street photography throughout western and central Europe (particularly in Italy and the Czech Republic); New York City street panoramics; a photo essay on the war ravaged Croatian city of Vukovar (to be featured in an upcoming gallery show in conjunction with the Fotoseptiembre International Photography Festival in San Antonio); month long frame-a-day projects in Austin; and an exploration of color infrared pinhole photography.

I have had roughly half a dozen local exhibitions in the past six months with at least three more on the horizon for the coming year. Previously I have exhibited in group shows at Charles University in Prague, at Washington University in St. Louis, at St. Edwards University in Austin, and online in the first ever “Group Show”:http://humbleartsfoundation.org/groupshow/archives/1/gs1.html. One of the photographs was given full-page treatment in Shutterbug magazine (the February 2007 issue).

I continue to seek additional avenues to promote myself and my photography.
