Mara Catalan was born in Madrid in 1967. Mara is a photographer and also a B/W master printer. Her work with photography has taken her to multiple arenas and to travel to many parts of the world. She started working as a photographer assistant in Ciclorama studios for Javier Vallhonrat in Madrid. At the beginning of the 90’s she leaves Spain an establishes herself in New York City starting to work as a B/W printer and collaborating as a photographer for different magazines and artists in their personal projects.
In 1995 Mara travels to Chiapas, Mexico were she works in the photography archives of the Museum Na-Bolom in San Cristobal de las Casas. When she arrives back in to NY in 1997, she starts working as a B/W fine printer for the agency Magnum Photos. In 2002 she opens her own B/W lab in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and in 2006 she extends her working space by opening a photography space Studio304.org.were she continues to work and to organize every other month the Studio304 Slideshow.
Mara has published her work in numerous magazines and photography books like: Friendship, M.I.L.K publications; New York Fashion, V&A publications; Urban Age, Phaedon books.
Mara Catalan has shown her personal work in exhibitions in Spain, England, Mexico and the EEUU. Her photographs are also part of private collections such as Spencer Throckmorton Inc; Mead Art Museum and Linda Kaston in NYC.

Today she lives in Brooklyn, NY.
