Space of youthA teen metamorphoses to a young adult who would face many challenges. Influenced strongly by experiences in life and exposure to different social phenomena, a young would develop his or her character and individuality. The divisions of the society in Sri Lanka along social, cultural, economic and racial lines became more evident during the past few decades. The socioeconomic changes and the ethnic conflict, which are inherent to that period has no parallel in the recent Sri Lankan history. Sometimes it may have taken off certain common denominators of the youth. Space of youth attempted to capture the presence of youth in their own dwellings. For some this is a well-furnished room while for another it is a corner of the single room that passes for a home for the whole family. For still some others it is the quiet of a monastery or the confines of a juvenile prison. Yet visible / apparent is the joy, innocence, courage and vulnerability of the young. Part of this series has been chosen to be exhibited at the Singapore International Photography Exhibition in October 2008.
