In the early hours, the village of carbet, "cabins", built by the golddiggers wakes up in the dampness of the rainforest. The village is in the heart of the state of Amzonas, one of the brazilian state which has suffered the least of deforestation so far.

The Garimpo do Juma, "the goldmine of the Juma river", spreads over 10 Ha and was hollowed out to 80 feet / 25 meters deep. Deforestation, a consequence of mining is irreversible.

Some men dig the sandy earth using a firehose. The mud will then be pumped through another pipe which will carries it onto carpets where gold particles are collected.
