Drivers from rival taxi driver's unions battle in the streets of La Paz, Bolivia during unrest surrounding the new leftist policies of President elect Evo Morales. Although Morales swept to victory on the high hopes of Bolivia's historically opressed indigenous population, the streets of La Paz soon descended into chaos when groups of workers critical of Morales began clashing with pro-Morales worker groups.

Cyberpunk is a genre of both art and fashion that gained popularity starting in the 1980's. It is generally characterized by the mix of the punk rock music genre with futuristic aspects of science fiction creating a new style that has been popularized in hollywood movies like Blade Runner and The Matrix. A cyberpunk model waits to strut down the runway at a De Young Museum fashion show in San Francisco.

After a women's rally in support of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, traditional dancers perform outside of Barrio Coche, a poor community in Caracas. The rally was part of a campaign in many poor communities in Caracas to get Chavez re-elected on his socialist platform, which has re-alocated oil profits to social programs which often benefit the poor. However, Chavez's fiery rhetoric, and ties to communist Cuba have put him at odds with the United States.

People clean their neighborhood as part of a work project funded by the Hugo Chavez administration. One of the ways that Chavez's government has re-alocated oil revenues is by funding neighborhood work projects. The people in this neighborhood of Chua were payed the equivelant of about $15 for 5 hours of work, cleaning and placing a pesticide on the trees to keep bugs from killing them.

Workers are payed $1 an hour by American corporations that come to Mexico for the cheap labor, then export all the goods to the United States for a profit. The low pay creates conditions similar to indentured servitude or slavery as workers only make enough money to survive and work another day, instead of being able to plan for the future.

Damning and overpopulation in the United States has turned what was once a flowing mass of water, the Colorado River, into a dust filled trench in Mexico. Over the years, Mexican farmers in the State of Sonora watched the water slowly disappear, until one day it was all gone. Conditions in the region are now reminiscent of the depression era dust bowl in the United States. A farmer's wife is comforted by her granddaughter as she worries about supporting her family on their failing farm.
