July 2008, Karachol village, Crimea, Ukraine. A portrait of Djebbar Kokosh, 92 years old. When he was young he joined the Red Army and in 1939 was put in a concentration camp for 2 years. He managed to escape but was caught and kept in Austria untill the end of the war; he was arrested and kept in various places all across the Soviet Union for 11 years. Maheswour Mandagi(L), 18, from Jhumuka village, Kandha tribe; Surendra Mandagi(R), 18, from Sanamanadhara village, Kandha tribe. They have spent the last 4 months in the training centre learning various activities, (food processing, bee keeping, computer science, driving, motorwinding, self help groups), and skills that will be of essential help when they return to their village. The rural reconstruction training centre is run by a local NGO that give the possibility to young people from various villages to do 4 months training promoting skills building. © Simone Donati / GraziaNeri
