Captive Tasmanian Devils get sexy at Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park, near Taranna, Tasmania, Australia. This young male and female were going through the pre mating motions, wrestling, biting, snarling. I don't think they actually copulated while I was there, but it was a close run thing - the male did sit on the female. Most of the devils I photographed over the last week were either recovering from injuries, or orphans, seperated from parents suffering from the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumor Disease, which is a contagious cancer.

Saturday afternoon, Temple Bar, Dublin. Who would have thought it necessary to turn the Irish towards god? In 2007, these rather shouty born again christians find it necessary to take the streets of Ireland's capital city to convert the heathen Irish to the word of god. Not many listened, some took photos, as souvenirs. But god, did they talk a load of muck.

Gallinula mortierii, a flightless water bird, one of twelve species of birds endemic to Tasmania (they don't exist anywhere else). While in New Zealand, flightless birds have done badly since humans colonised, the native hen has done quite well thanks to the extensive new grassy areas. I photographed this bird at Adventure Bay, Bruny Island

Two Hourglass dolphins breaching, Southern Ocean, 27/02/2006. Rarely seen and little known, these are the only cetaceans to be taxonomically described from eyewitness accounts alone. Only six complete and 14 partial specimans have been examined by scientists - to see them from the Greenpeace ship Esperanza was a rare treat....

Nick Cave's side project Grinderman at Electric Picnic 2008. Stradbally, Laois, Ireland. Grinderman have a more raw, garage band sound than the Bads seeds, of which Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn P. Casey, and Jim Sclavunos are all members. Grinderman were one of the highlights of the Electric Picnic - and were very clearly enjoying themselves - there was not of the reserve sometimes apparent during Bad Seeds gig, Cave was very much engaged with the audience, and the crowd were loving it!

Yushima Seido located in the Yushima neighbourhood of Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan, was constructed by Hayashi Razan as a Confucian temple in the Genroku era of the Edo period (end of the 17th century). It was closed in it was closed in 1871 after the Meiji Restoration. Apparently it was used as a location in the TV series Monkey during the 1970s, and today is used as a place of prayer for students studying for exams.
