Supporters of the opposition party Orange Democratic Movement (ODM ) protest along Ngong Road, the main road out west of Nairobi city. Carrying posters of the opposition leader Raila Odinga and bottles of the soft drink Fanta Orange, they took part in two days of ‘scheduled’ demonstrations by ODM in protest against the alleged rigging of the elections held 27 December 2007 which saw President Mwai Kibaki from PNU, Party of National Unity, sworn in for a second term. Demonstrators also carried branches as symbols of peace but still vented their frustrations with acts of vandalism and disrupting traffic. 3 January 2008.

Family members mourn at the Mass Funeral held for victims of Kenya`s political and ethnic violence that began after the alleged rigged of the 27 December 2007. Twenty eight bodies were brought to the Ligi Ndogo Grounds off Ngong Road in Nairobi where Raila Odinga, leader of the opposition party Orange Democratic Movement, began speaking but was prevented from concluding as opposition supporting youths clashed with police and tear gas caused a mass exodus. 22 January 2008

Paul Waiko Karanja holds his two boys Victor and Danson close to him. Despite being an African church leader and respected member of the community, he and his family joined other displaced Kikuyus like Peter (onlooking) at the Kibos Prison Primary School on the outskirts of Kenya`s western town of Kisumu. The main tribe in the area is the Luo, the same tribe as the opposition party leader Raila Odinga who allegedly lost by 200,000 votes to President Mwai Kibaki, a Kikuyu, in the 27 December 2007 elections. The resulting tensions in the area meant many Kikuyus in the Kisumu area had their houses burned, were forced to leave or fled anyway through fear. The number of internally displaced people (IDPs) resulting from the post-election ethnic violence in Kenya during this time reached 250,000. 8 January 2008
