"Abandoned Spaces" (by Dalia Khamissy) http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/contact_sheet/15199 Abandoned Spaces is the first project I worked on after the summer 2006 Israeli offensive on Lebanon. It was my way to reconcile with photography. After editing so many graphic pictures_ I was the photo editor for AP in Beirut back then_ I took some time off not wanting to photograph. Several months later, I visited the areas that were affected by the conflict. I wanted to document what happened in a more subtle way. Some towns were under construction while others remained completely destroyed. I entered spaces that were ravaged by the war. In my Abandoned Spaces series I wanted to document the peace I felt in every house or mosque I entered, even amongst the chaos. I focused on the space, wanting to show how the war invaded it, the furniture left behind telling the story of people who once lived there and their memories. In few seconds the war turned public what was once private.
