http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/contact_sheet/18110 Approximately 50 persons had to be treated by medical personnel after police crackdown against the home town and Hungary's Ferencvaros Budapest fans during the premier Slovakian league match between the home-side DAC Dunajska Streda and Slovan Bratislava on 1. November 2008. One 18 year old fan, who was trampled out by the crowd, had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter as he was in a life hazard. The police was accused for an inadequate and unnecessary intervention by mayor of Dunajska Streda, home side fans, Hungarian nationalist organizations and the Slovak political party representing ethnic Hungarians living in Slovakia. The police sad that they decided to intervent after home-side fans started throwing stones and attacking the officers, arguing that they have a video footage prooving that. The crackdown became a major cause in Slovak-Hungarian relations, which had been tense since the nationalist Slovak national party joined the government in 2006. Hundreds of protesters gathered on the same day in front of the Slovak embassy in Budapest (Hungary) to protest against the police crackdown at the football stadium. Burning of Slovakia's national flag occurred during the protest as well . In the following days Slovak Prime minister, President and Minister for the Interior and police main officers defended crackdown as adequate and lawful while Slovakia's Foreign Affairs Ministry strongly condemned against the burning of the Slovakia's national flag in Budapest. Deputy Prime Minister for a Knowledge-based Society, European Affairs, Human Rights and Minorities Dusan Caplovic, who attended the match blamed the Hungary's Ferencvaros Budapest fans for the riots, who arrived to Slovakia to "break up the Slovak-Hungarian relations". Members and sympathisers of the Hungarian far-right non-parliamentary Movement for a Better Hungary (Jobbik) and the Hungarian Guards blocked one line of traffic on roads leading to the three border-crossings on the Hungarian side of the Slovak-Hungarian border for 2 days as a protest against the crackdown that they saw as an act of police brutality against ethnic Hungarians living in Slovakia. The issue was discussed at the meeting by Prime ministers and the Presidents of both states. Hungarian PM demanded the investigation and the video footage which police used as an argument. The footage still wasn't publicised.
