http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/contact_sheet/26443 Mass flooding which took over Poland in May 2010 has had a tremendous impact on many people’s life’s. When 14 out of 16 Polish provinces where declared flooded, many lost everything whether it was their home, land or live stock. The Wilków area in the Lubelskie region is amongst the mostly affected by the big spill. The nearby Wisła River flooded 90% of the area forcing it’s people to evacuate in a hurry and find temporary shelter within premises of a primary school in the neighbouring village of Rogów. Only when the levels of high water have fallen one can judge the real state of destruction. Locals recall the image of coffins floating between tree tops when the graveyard in Wilków found itself under water. The landscape of the region once known nation-widely for it’s hops plantations and fruit orchard has now been completely devastated leaving it’s citizens with the loss of their only income and painful months if not years of reconstruction. A state of emergency has not been issued due to upcoming presidential elections.
