http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/contact_sheet/26652 The Survivors shows my attitude towards Armenian Big Genocide of 1915 by Ottoman Turkey. The project is about people who managed to escape safely, to survive and who continued their life. I found these people and took their pictures to have a living evidence of them. Actually the Genocide of 1915 by Ottoman Turkey during which almost 1.5 million Armenian were killed remains unrecognized by many countries around the world (only some 20 countries recognized The Armenian Genocide). And my project is kind a reminder, it is a request for justice. Thus the project is very important for me as for any Armenian as these people survived and continue to keep a silence of a century. Unfortunately, many of them died already and they become less and less day by day. Especially by this point of view I don’t have too much time to overcome with my project. The project now includes pictures only for 43 survivors. But it cannot be finished while at least one of those people is alive. And the fact that their number reduces day by day makes me to hurry as the middle age of these people is 96-100. These people are a living evidence of Genocide. I shoot them as survivors. In pictures of the project they keep in hands the picture of their past. By the other hand they are bound to each other, to the destiny of their nation, to us. The first picture for the Survivors project is than at 2005 and after three years that picture become a self matter to start a project. The idea and the realization of the project are done by me only. Although the project is now finished yet it already had success. I showed it as an individual exhibition in April May of 2009. I won a Grand Prix of an international photo competition after Karl Bulla (http://bullafond.ru/58.html).
