http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/contact_sheet/3345 Will be exhibited in Porto Alegre FestFoto in January www.festfotopoa.com.br “There is a saying in Britain ‘That nothing is thicker than blood and water’ and I believe it means that like: blood mixed with water it becomes very hard to separate so appears to be a much thicker substance than water alone. And so like the families we are born into and grow up with if we are lucky, we are tied explicably like this substance and no matter what comes form these threads; for good or bad we will always be connected in our past and into our future like ‘blood and water’â€*. This is a record of my family, although I have been turning the camera inwards on my own life and my family sporadically since 1980, this project was only begun in 2004.The reason is that only now as I am getting older like my Father and Mother did I feel a need to record there lives and they way they affect my world. My Grandfather is 87 and suffers from dimensia, my Mother and Father have both suffered from cancer and mental illness and are now retired and moving away from the place of their birth, looking for more tranquil days, and all my Brothers have now moved away. It is a time of fragmentation and change for us all, this is not unusual I suppose and many other families around the world have probably experienced these anxious times in their lives and in much harsher ways I expect, but this is my family and my life and this is how it is; and how its is as much about my sensations and feelings as about my families lives. If other people see a reflection in there own lives and can enjoy this work then I am happy, otherwise no sentimental words here they are: this is my family.
