It was developed in the Mughal era through a synthesis of Indian Malla Yuddha. The wrestlers are commonly knows as ‘Pehelvans’, its practiced and performed in ‘Akhara’ (Traditional wrestling place). On Daily basis these wrestlers go through rigorous training from waking up at early morning 5am and practising for almost 6 hours a day . A wrestler’s normail daily diet is 5kgs of vegetables, 3 litres of milk, amongst other things. All the wrestlers share a small room with very few belongings. Though Kushti has managed to retain its traditions alive, few changes have been made to accomodate the modernity (mats, clothing, shoes etc.) in this sport, enabling the wrestlers to participate in various International arenas.
