http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/contact_sheet/34042 The Changing Face of Bangalore with the Advent of the Metro Rail Bangalore, an erstwhile Garden City, has changed in leaps and bounds from the late 90s. Once known as the “Pensioners’ Paradise”, it is now a bustling and fast-growing IT city, offering more opportunities through a constant sea of changes taking place each and every day. The Metro Rail project is one major change this perennially beautiful city has seen these past few years. I was fascinated when this project was kicked off in April 2006. But I got to understand the real impact of these changes only after a year or so. The Metro construction authorities started their civil works by mercilessly uprooting thousands of trees and disfiguring and demolishing hundreds of buildings on the rail alignment areas. The enormity of planning and construction of a huge infrastructure, which is worth 11,000+ crores, started showing up and the once spick-and-span city slowly started going through a drastic change. I was really hurt when the boulevard on MG Road was demolished to make way for the Metro Rail to pass through. I’ve been documenting this city for quiet sometime and this particular change on one of the arterial roads motivated me to document the changing face of Bangalore by the introduction of the Metro Rail. I started this project two years back with an objective to record the changes across various locations of this city, which is being refurbished. The city started loosing various buildings including few heritage buildings, lots of lungs spaces like trees and parks and many other residential houses. http://www.lightstalkers.org en-us
