http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/contact_sheet/4513 SInce January 2007 Bangladesh has been under emergency rule when elections were cancelled after months of violence over vote rigging allegations made by Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party against Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Although there was popular support for the interim government when it came to power discontent has been rising in recent months, most notably over the rapidly rising cost of living. On August 20th troops garrisoned at Dhaka University Campus triggered violence and unrest by picking a fight with students over a football match. 2 days of violent rioting between police, students and civilians ensued and the streets of Dhaka were filled with hurling rocks, rubber bullets and tear gas. Strict curfews were brought in and most of the country's media were advised to operate under self censorship in order to quell further unrest.
