http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/contact_sheet/4520 Dhaka's Genvea refugee camp houses over 500 Urdu speaking families known locally as Bihari's and who originally came from the east Indian state of Bihar at the time of partition in 1947. In the Banglashi war of independence in 1971 they sided with Pakistan and today still consider themselves to be Pakistani. The camp is notorious for its cramped living conditions, poor sanitation and shotages of electricity and clean water. Families usually live, sleep and eat in a 4 square metre room. There are two water pumps in the camp but these often produce water unfit for consumption. On 5th September 2007 the Bangladeshi government annoucesd that they would be given voting rights which will mean the loss of their refugee status. Many children in the camp work on detailed weaving patterns for sarees in order to bring in money for their family. http://www.lightstalkers.org en-us <img
