It was very common to have this kind of braided hairstyle in the past. Now there are only two young men in my village who have braided hair, because young men now think it is old fashioned. This is a lha ba - a trans medium who becomes possessed by a local mountain deity in the Klu rol festival. "There are terrifying stories about the lha ba. When he is possessed he recited what has happened in the previous year and the sins the villager committed. Often he is able to name those people and pinpoints what had then done as a sin which some of them confessed true later." By Lhundrom, taken in Rebgong County, Qinghai Province.
