Ryuichi Sakamoto after a joint performance, with Carsten Nicolai, of 'Insen', in Tokyo, Japan, Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006. In 2003 the two musicians, Ryuichi Sakamoto from Japan, and Carsten Nicolai born in East Germany, came together to record and release the album 'Vrioon', now they follow up that highly acclaimed album with the release, on the Raster Noton music label, of 'Insen'.

Shoko Tendo, daughter of Yakuza boss Hiroyasu Tendo,(now deceased), has written an autobiographical book - 'Yakuza Moon', describing her life growing up with a Yakuza criminal boss for a father, of her addiction to drugs, and the failed, and often violent sexual relationships she had with men. Shoko Tendo lives in Tokyo with her 2 year old daughter Komachi.

Children play on the beach, beside a fallen trunk of a coconut tree whose roots had been exposed by sea erosion of the land, on the shoreline of Han Island, Carterets Atoll, Papua New Guinea, on Monday, Dec. 11, 2006. Rising sea levels have eroded much of the coastlines of the low lying Carteret islands (situated 80km from Bougainville island, in the South Pacific), and waves have crashed over the islands flooding and destroying what little crop gardens the islanders have. Food is in short supply, banana and swamp taro crops are failing due to the salt contamination of the land, and the islanders live on a meagre one meal per day diet of fish and coconut. There is talk by the Autonomous Region of Bougainville government to relocate the Carteret Islanders to Bougainville island, but this plan is stalled due to a lack of finances, resources, land and coordination.
