The city of Canoga Park instituted a gang injunction outlining a 4.65-square mile area wherein known gang members are prohibited from associating with other members, drinking alcohol in public, intimidating witnesses and being out from 10 p.m. to sunrise, among other off-limits behavior.

Anti-war protesters look across a police line at a pro-military crowd Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 in Berkeley, Calif. A Berkeley City Council decision to renounce the presence of the Marine Corps recruiting office in its city set off a widespread debate, drawing hundreds to Berkeley City Hall to learn whether the council would revoke its decision. Anti-war protesters lined up on one side of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and pro-military supporters on the other. Both groups sang songs, blared music from loud-speakers and taunted one another, and several arrests were made.

But tighter security at the US/Mexico border may reduce the availability of these seasonal workers, most of whom enter the country illegally.
