The peasant community of Los Tigres (Colombia). 2008. Los Tigres is a resistant community located next to the city of Caucasia, in the department of Antioquia. It is composed by 60 families and it was born forty years ago. The surrounding hills are occupied by illegal armed forces. People of Los Tigres have been rejecting for decades the forced displacement thanks to their social cohesion, indomitable spirit and community organization. Agriculture is the main activity of these people.

More than 1.5 million displaced persons are registered with the Colombian government, but NGOs estimate that the real figure is more than double this. Many displaced people within Colombia do not register for fear of being attacked, stigmatized or displaced again.

With 4 million internal displaced persons, Colombia presents the highest number of internally displaced people in the western hemisphere, and the second largest displaced population in the world after Sudan. The displacement is related to the countryâ€™s four-decade-long internal armed conflict, the most protracted in Latin America. Healthcare access is difficult and dangerous for those intenal displaced people in rural conflict zones and those forced to seek refuge in urban slums.
