About

First I wanted to be a radio journalist, BBC’s Nairobi based correspondent in the 80’s Colin Blane reporting from Comoros Islands after another of their famous coups impressed me so much. But I joined the Nation newspaper in 1988 as a writing stringer, but I was soon frustrated by the emotionless dry newspaper reporting. I landed in Associated Press in 1990 as an editorial assistant. The work of John Moore, Santiago Lyon, Greg Marinovich, John Marc Bouju and others impressed me so much that I decided to teach myself photography. Somalia, Burundi, Sudan were some of the stories I horned up my skills as photographer. Being a writer helped me to focus on shooting relevant pictures. Reuters offered me a job in 1995 and made me its chief photographer in 2000. I left Reuters in 2002 and taught photography and consulted for the United Nation until 2005 when I returned to the Nation as its photo editor. I left in 2006 to return to freelancing. I am now at the Standard as staff photographer.I have covered most important news stories in Africa including the swearing in of Nigeria’s Obasanjo and the Rwanda genocide. My work has appeared in Time, Newsweek, The Economist, Life and many other magazines. I have also had front pages in The Herald Tribunes, Washington Post, The LA times and other leading world dailies. I have also had “award of excellence” at the 1998 World Press Photo. I continue to do documentary work from Nairobi, Kenya.

Tamron 17-50 f2.8 on canon Mark 11

Just wondering has anyone help for me, my standard issue at my newspaper is a tamron 17-50 f2.8, the vignette or halo around the pic makes it almost useless on a full frame. is there anything I can do to use this lense? buying a 1.6 crop camera is out of the question and the company won’t buy a 16-35.. “we have no money work with what you have” they said.. i need adv urgently.
