exclusive partnership allows Getty Images to invite Flickr do they have ask the photographer of they like it ?? One company to a other company make deals but the real owner the photographer get nothing and ask nothing !!

Getty Images, the world’s leading creator and distributor of visual content and other digital media, and Flickr™, a division of Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) and one of the world’s largest photo sharing communities, today announce a collaboration that unites the authenticity of images from the Flickr community with Getty Images’ imagery collections, photographic expertise and unrivalled experience in licensing digital media.

The exclusive partnership allows Getty Images to invite Flickr members to participate in a Flickr branded collection on www.gettyimages.com that will be available for licensing to Getty Images’ creative, commercial and editorial customers in the coming months.

I got an invitation from the Getty/Flickr yesterday for five of my images. I went through the motions of signing up to get a look at it all.

My usual workflow involves processing my images, uploading to my blog and flickr, and high rez to Photoshelter, and off to Alamy, agencies, etc. So by the time my pics are on flickr, they’re often winging their way to other, non-exclusive commercial outlets.

With the Getty setup, however, they find your image possibly long after it’s been posted on flickr (you can’t submit to the Getty Flickr collection manually), then request exclusive rights to it for 2 years. Not only that, but they suggested all five of the images they requested from me should be sold as Royalty Free.

I’m somewhat dubious…
