“Defence of mother tongues and spread of plurilingualism” is the title of the day of studies conceived by the University of Naples “L’Orientale” – Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale”, in collaboration with the Interdepartmental Center of Linguistic and Audiovisual Services CILA, as part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008.

The program for the October 9th, consists in the participation of experts who will relate about defence and support of mother languages and promotion and increment of plurilingualism. Included is a round table moderated by the journalist Gabriela Pentelescu to work with a project that figure out the plurilingualism as a source of knowledge and work opportunities. Particularly attractive could be this last moment, it could be a practical consideration of the intercultural mediation activity nowadays, thanks to the contributions of representatives of the University of Naples “L’Orientale", CARITAS, Institute Confucio of Naples, University of Klagenfurt, National Institute for Health Migration and Poverty, and the Scholastic Regional Direction of Campania.

During the day, as alternative, it will be possible to take part to one of the workshops coordinated by Giuliana Cacciapuoti, on photography: “The photographic image and the role of photographer in the intercultural mediation”, by Giovanni Melillo and Martha Jiménez Rosano,
on music: “Musical models and the job of the music teacher in intercultural mediation”, by Massimiliano Fuschetto and Giulio Costanzo.

Audio and visuals could not be absent in this manifestation that intends to explore the diversity, so there one will find:
- “Portraits of Migrant Cultures” photographic exhibition of the Photographic Archive Parisio–Extramondi,
- "Sguardi ad Est” photographic exhibition of the Department of Oriental Europe Studies,
- the video projection “Le Saiden”, Comparison of educational systems: Italy – Benin,
- and the closing concert dedicated to the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
