GlobalPost Payments
|
Anyway having trouble wringing money out of GlobalPost.com? I’ve just had a series of very unpleasant exchanges with them over a check that’s late and they keep delaying without warning me. To be fair, I finally blew my top, and now a very cold mannered person is not disposed to help. But figured it was worth mentioned if this suggests a broader tendency at that shop. Which would be sad.

anyone. Not anyway. Must learn to type one of these days.

I’ve received two payments, promptly, from GP. I’ve dealt with Jim Wooster in accounting both times.
What really takes a million years is for them to actually put work they commission or you pitch and they approve up on the website. I have three stories in the pipeline, and feel hesitant to turn in more until they run my other stuff.

Good to hear; they seem like good people. I dealt with Jim too, but he went on vacation, so oh well. I had a similar experience on the commissioning end too, months and months of maybe decisions, for a pretty simple story. But that I chalk up to them being new and understandably chaotic. Not paying people, though, that’s a different kettle of fish. Anyway thanks for the context.

This brings to light a common problem within the industry. One way we could fight back collectively would be here on Lightstalkers. Much like Ebay keeps track of sellers ratings, I imagine that it would be possible to develop a module on Lightstalkers where people can record certain statistical information about their experience with a certain client. Then if you see that a Global Post has a 1 out of 5 star rating, you would know to avoid them.
Here’s a blog posting that made me think about this idea. A wall of shame board:

I think it may be worth talking to the founders about this.
