Going to West Papua

Hello
I am planning to go to West Papua. Can anyone tell me the current situation over there since Dec 1? Are there any restrictions for photographers/journalists to enter certain areas? I still hold Indonesian citizenship and passport. Also, can anyone refer me to a contact in Jayapura or surrounding area. My plan is to do a documentary of the rise of HIV and Human rights issues. Thanks

Hi Andri
I have been to Papua 3 times and will be going again in March. There are restrictions in West Papua for journalists and I would advise you to enter as a tourist, if you still hold Indonesian citizenship then you should not have any problems. But you will need to obtain a Salat Jalan in Jayapura and you are supposed to name all the areas you wish to travel in and get this stamped by the police when you arrive in those areas. As an Indonesian I don’t know if this will apply to yourself. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Hope this helps some though.
