Thoughts:
1. There are several other (recent and ancient) threads on the value of attending. Use the search feature to find them.
2. If you are in the area by all means go. Irrespective you’ll be inspired by a lot of good work. Be sure to go to the night showings before you do your serious drinking.
3. Yes, accommodations are a bitch. Unless you get really lucky, it’s too late to stay in town. There are, however, plenty of places in the surrounding villages. You’ll need a vehicle, but sounds like you’ll have one.
4. Stay the entire professional week if you can. people you see at the beginning show up later in the week and it allows you to impress yourself on them again…thus enhancing their memory of you!
5. A great opportunity to meet people is the opening reception the first night of professional week. It is less crowded and allows you to meet some serious real players. It is usually at the Hotel Pams.
6. If you can get some time to show the portfolio, great. Do it. There will be chances for you to do it, in all probability. But don’t consider it a failure if you don’t. Just meet as many people as you can, and give out business cards, find out about opportunities, exchange other information, and NETWORK!
