FOTOWEEK DC is the premier week‐long photographic festival of the Nation’s Capital.

Established in 2008 to celebrate the power of photography, and to invite the
public to join with the photographic community in a city‐wide annual
gathering, FotoWeek DC continues to fulfill its mission of raising awareness
of photography’s role in our world by recognizing and honoring extraordinary work.

FotoWeek DC is pleased to announce that its second annual FotoWeek DC
Awards has expanded to an international call for entries of remarkable
imagery, both in single and series form, as well as multimedia pieces that
combine the strength of still images with video, sound and graphics.

The competition is open to professionals, amateurs, and students with
$21,500 in cash awards including the $5000 prestigious Spirit of Washington
Award. Entries will be judged in 12 separate categories, and images created
via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration (digital, film,
cell phone, and alternatives processes

A distinguished panel of judges includes photographers Joyce Tenneson,
David Alan Harvey, Simon Bruty, Paula Lerner, photo editors Alice
Gabriner of the White House, Dan Westergren and Gail Fisher of
National Geographic, Ruth Eichhorn of German Geo, Bonnie Stutski of
Smithsonian Magazine, and collector Tony Podesta of Washington DC.

Judges will select outstanding work that will be announced and recognized
at the FotoWeek DC Awards ceremony to be held at the National Geographic Society’s Headquarters on Thursday, November 5,2009.

Finalists’ images from each of the categories will be exhibited in the official
exhibition space, FOTOWEEK Central as part of the FotoWeek DC Festival
November 7‐14, 2009.

In addition, finalists’ work will be shown online and
published in a limited edition book in 2010.

Entries are now being accepted with early submission deadline of July 26th.
The final Awards deadline is September 13, 2009.

In addition to the annual Awards Competition, Youth Contest and week‐long
festival in November, FotoWeek DC has many exciting events throughout the year,
including FOTOBAMA, an international exhibition of photographs from the
presidential election currently at the Newseum, Cameras for Kids and other
community youth programs.

FotoWeek DC is a 501©(3) non‐profit organization.
