Bus driver is Guatemala's most dangerous occupation. More than 170 bus drivers were assassinated during 2008. The bus drivers become victims of street gangs who extort money from the drivers in order to let the buses pass through areas where the criminals are present. If the driver cannot afford to pay, his life is in high danger. Victoriano Pineda Rodriguez`s son Waldemar Pineda Rivas (36) was assassinated. Waldemar worked as a bus driver. Victoriano knew that his son feared for his life.
