Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva launched a crackdown on a Bangkok protest after officially scrapping an offer to hold an early election this year in a bid to placate the anti-government demonstrators in which the protestors' chief military security adviser, Major General Khattiya Sawasdipol, better known by his nickname Seh Daeng, was shot in the head 13 May.
