Shuhada’ Bridge was one of my favourite places in Baghdad…Although it wasn’t very long, we used to really enjoy walking across it, watching people fishing, spreading their nets, absorbed in their work and singing their songs…seagulls raced to pick up pieces of bread; people would buy a fresh loaf from a nearby bakery, stand by the railings of the bridge and throw crumbs into the river…the fish…the seagulls. But now, the bridge is closed. (image by Eugenie Dolberg)
