Barbeque Bottom is one of the largest of the cockpits in the Cockpit Country. The Cockpit Country got its name from the fact that its limestone terrain is composed of hills and steep valleys - the valleys resembling cock-fighting pits. The terrain is as a result of action of rain water reacting with the calcium carbonate of the limestone. This results in underground rivers and caves.
