The Cockpit Country is home to over 100 species of endemic plants and animals found in its forests and its caves. These include ferns, bromeliads and epiphytes. Animals include the endemic yellow- and black-billed parrots and the Giant Swallow-Tailed butterfly, the largest butterfly in the western hemisphere and the second largest in the world. Snakes are also found in the Cockpit Country.
