An angry mob of Luos attack a Kikuyu man they accuse of being a member of the Mungiki sect Police raided two buildings in Mathare north in the middle of the night, arresting 85 residents including children over alleged default of payment on rent. The incident sparked a reaction from residents of the area who stopped a bus that was making a detour through the area and torched it. A small group of men also attacked a man they accused of being a member of the outlawed Mungiki sect. The man was rescued by a local journalist. The next day in court the landlord of one building stated that he himself had been arrested and evicted from his own building and had never made any complaint about his tenants not paying rent.
